Look Fantastic Beauty Box – Review

Hi guys,

Today’s post is about the monthly beauty box by Look Fantastic. I’ve recently changed over to this after using 2 others over the last two years and this has been by far the most impressive one in my opinion and so I thought I’d share my thoughts!

So I have had subscriptions to beauty boxes for about 2 years and I have previously tried Glossybox and Birchbox. I have to be honest and say I loved them both, and there is nothing wrong with either of them. What made me change was the products – after closely monitoring Look Fantastic’s previous boxes for some months I found myself slightly disappointed with what I was receiving compared to the products in the LF box.

I think Birchbox does really good makeup products and hair products, but LF seems to do some really amazing skincare products and that appealed to me a lot. Glossybox does perfumes and nail polishes which I never had in my Birchbox so that might be a better option for you if you like those sorts of products.

So today I received my first ever LF box and here are my thoughts so far:

The products

The first product that caught my eye was the Omorovicza Cleansing Foam – I have tried samples of a few products from this brand and I loved every single one but their products aren’t cheap so I’ve not yet taken the plunge and purchased anything full size. I really think of this brand as one of those where you can feel that what you’re getting what you pay for. The products have always felt luxurious to me and worked well with my skin, so this was very exciting for me.

The size of the cleanser in the box is 30ml and given you only need a “pearl sized amount” I think this will last me a month at least if I use it as the second part of my double cleanse.

The box also contains a face mask from Madara Cosmetics which is another of my favourite brands, and a full size Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin B5 serum from The Ordinary. I love that the majority of the products are skincare based, but there’s also a gorgeous Morphe highlighter, EOS lip balm and Rituals hand cream so it covers a few different bases.

The extras

Another thing I really liked about this box, and perhaps didn’t really think it would play a part in this initially, is the copy of Elle magazine that comes with it each month. I do usually get myself a magazine once a month as a little treat (sometimes Vogue, sometimes Elle, sometimes something else) and not having to do that seems quite convenient now.

There is also a little booklet with information about the products in the box and how to use them. This is something that every subscription box I’ve received has had, but I find this one to be more detailed and more interesting. It also contains a highlight section and an interview section so there is a bit of extra reading which I personally really enjoy, given this is what I like learning about.

It feels that this box isn’t just about the products, but also about the experience and that makes it that extra bit more special to me.

The price

In terms of price difference between the LF box and the other two, it’s small enough that I can’t actually tell you which one is cheapest without looking this up. They are all around the £14 mark and they all offer discounts if you subscribe for longer periods of time at once (e.g. you save about £1 per box if you subscribe for a full year).

In my personal opinion, the type of products and brands you get in the LF box definitely cost more than what I was getting in the other two so this also made me think the swap to this was a good move. Given the brands included in the LF box are usually cult classics, I feel that each box I’ve seen has been worth at least double the actual cost. For me, it’s a no brainer.

The conclusion

For me personally, this box is a winner. Although I’ve only had one so far, seeing the previous ones compared to what I had been receiving from the other two has made me convinced I will love this one even more in the following months.

Having said that, I really think this is down to personal preference and what products you like. I’m a big fan of skincare, so this works but if you like a variety of products I think Glossybox is best for that, and if you like makeup and hair products Birchbox is best for those. The prices are very similar so if you’re thinking of subscribing to a beauty box or you already have one but you’re thinking for changing, my advice would be to focus on which products you enjoy the most and pick the one that does more of them.

See you next time 🙂
